Anyone ever do a no vent window door on the task force or blue chip trucks. I've about pulled my hair out fooling with these darn things. Larry

I have never done a no-vent, but I have just redone the vents on my 57 GMC. I bought all the rubber, new vent glass, and weather stripping at carandtruckshop.com I did not have any problems and they look and work like new. I did buy the rivets and the little setting tool from them also.
The window wipes will have to have the clips trimmed off a little, to fit the holes in the door.
The tension adjusting bolts on the vent frame were almost rusted into. I just brazed them back good, installed the washers and spring and they work perfect.

Thanks Old GMC. Can you tell me what the sequence was for putting the windows back in. Like which goes in first the vent or the window. Maybe put the window in the bottom of the door and then the vent assy. That's one of my problems. Thanks Larry

the vent assembly goes in first, but not attached, then with the vent leaning inward a bit, slip the main window in .... there's pretty good instructions in the shop manual here, especially see figure 19

Yep (figure 19) tells it all. You sorta have to put them both in together. Just get the glass in it's channel and slide them both in together.
Those little window wipes go in last. They can be a pain. On one of my doors, I had to completely cut the clips off, the inside one, and glue it in place.

Thanks guys, that explains it all. Not having the shop manual is a pain. This whole project started with me wanting to relive my younger days and wanting just an old pickup to drive. Seems to have balloned in work and way past what I did to my old trucks back in the 70's. Funny how just 35 or so years later they seem to have suffered in age considerable.Larry
