I am missing the spare tire carrier on my '50 AD 1/2 ton. Would someone please post a photo of an original carrier for this model truck or post a physical description of it.

Thanks

Denny,
Here's a partial shot of a new repro carrier doing it's job under my '50. I have seen originals but really like the way the spare stays firmly fastened to this carrier. After you unscrew the nut from the end of the hook bolt, the carrier tilts downward. You then pull the carrier backwards as it slides along the tracks of the carrier rail (which I assume is still fastened to the bed of your truck?)

Here's a better shot that might help. Yes that cable is to help prevent my spare from being ripped off.

Can't remember who I bought it from but think it was Golden State or American Classic.

Denny,
I too needed a spare carrier for my 52. When I checked into it I found that they made "a few" different carriers for the AD trucks over the years. I learned too that most of the carriers are gone off the trucks cuz the carriers were a pain in the arse. (I guess thats why they made "a few")
I posted several pictures of the spare carrier I put together for my truck. Yea...it's not original, but it works GREAT. It's a spare carrier off a late 80's mini pickup. (less than 20 bucks)

When the tire is up there, you can't see anything. It also holds the tire in just the right position looking from the rear of the truck.

Denny , I have used a Toyota Landcruiser carrier , almost identical to the setup that Russ has used .
It is easy to load the tyre into and easy to lift up , a good item to consider.

Russntustin and Dusty,
I like your ideas of installing a modern spare hoist setup. Very clean and simple. But how many flats are we going to have anyway ? The air in all 4 tires on my truck is over 16 years old.... wink
