For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 12 | Have a 53 with a 2nd gen 235 mated to a T5 5 speed, works good. Replacing the 235 with a 292 out of a 69 I just acquired and would like to know if the T5 will fit the 292 without an adapter. I haven't pulled either engine yet.
Any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, jim

You will need to find a bellhousing for a 55-59/63-67 V-8 / 63-67 6 cyl. The 68-72 bellhousing has a larger center hole but it will work as well. However, the aforementioned bellhousings mount to a crossmember that your truck likely does not have. The transmission mounting locations on the 53 trucks and the later units are the same. Any transmission that mounted up to your current configuration should fit the later ones as well. Fred
