| | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 25 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 25 | hi again I just got a inline 6 cylinder give to me the man said it was a 265 I looked up the block casting numbers 3835911 and head casting numbers 3835913 it states a 235 mfg from 1954 and 1955 there is a big difference in cam and oil flow even water pump .the serial number on the machined surface is c216743f55s cant find any references to this block serial number .block casting numbers are con 3 L214 and gm head has con 12 A35. trying to pinpoint year mfg .all help appreciated .

I think this is some help in IDing your 265 which is a 235. C216743F55S C = ? (might that be a number/digit?) 216743 = (should be seven digits) = 215743 out of that plant that model year F = Flint, MI plant 55 = 1955 first-series truck S = 235 engine in a 4000 series truck http://www.1954advance-design.com/chev-specs/1955-1st-Chevrolet-t-ser.pdfCON 3 = Conveyor #3 L214 L = 12 = December 21 = 21st 4 = 1954 (an end of the year block) C12 = Conveyor #12 A35 A = 1 = January 3 = 3rd 5 = 1955 What does this mean: . . . there is a big difference in cam and oil flow even water pump . . . | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | According to the serial number, it is a 235 from a First Series '55 1 1/2 ton truck. The "con 3 L214" casting number you found is the casting date, it breaks down like this; Con 3- Conveyor 3. That is the line then engine was cast on. L314- December,21st day, 1954.

3835911 was used on blocks from 53-55st trucks and Corvette 235s
3835913 was used on 54 and 55 heads

I think that is right, cuz. The internal water pump started with 1955-2nd Task Force Chevrolet trucks.
What year truck is that engine in? If it is an earlier truck, that water pump is located in a location that reduces cooling efficiency and the fan blade might be touch the radiator or harmonic balancer (depending on the fan blade).

They did have smaller cam journals than later engines.
