All my turn signal wires are soldered and ready to use shrink tubing. But since they are bunched up kinda close how do I keep them separated while doing this operation? Would a sheet of aluminum work?

a piece of paper should work, although it shouldn't be a problem if your 'heat gun' doesn't shoot flames wink with a number of wires close together you might even be able to shrink the covers all at the same time if you can keep a number of pieces properly positioned long enough, they won't 'melt' together

but the proper way to make up a connection like that is to stagger the wire lengths so no joints are in exactly the same place - or find a connector with the right number of pins and solder the wires into male and female plugs

I use a 3 or 4 inch wide putty knife for a shield, held behind the wires.

I like this idea 'cause it stays in place.

Red58 is right on the mark for staggering the splices, it eliminates any possibility of bulging the harness, keeps it neat and professional looking
