From 58-63 there is are two 1/2" NPT holes/plug on the driver's side. There is a movable plug inside the rearward hole that diverts full-flow oil out that hole. If that plug is moved to divert oil out the 1/2" NPT hole, that hole in the block should not be plugged.

It flows all the oil passing from the oil pump to the bearings, and if the passage is plugged the engine will die from lack of lubrication. It would be possible to put a 1/2" inside diameter connector hose suitable for engine oil from one port to the other if you prefer not to run a filter. If the diverter plug is in the "out" position, a regular bypass filter can be run, or the ports can be blocked off with 1/2" NPT plugs. Jerry

thanks guys rolf

Go to installation instructions, and it will illustrate,(by,(filter), model number, year, which fittings to use,and the correct procedure to install the filter brackets, lines and the filters themselves.

The Tech Tip is about by-pass oil filtration assemblies. The original 58-63 261 truck full-flow filter assembly is significantly different AND the direction of oil flow is different (the direction/orientation of oil flow in and out of the block).
