I'm looking to use my left over parts from a pervious 1940 restoration, to build an old beater truck and all I need is a cab and chassis...I have all the other parts. I'm still looking for a cab and chassis. Although I do have some options in my area there is an abundance of 1.5 ton frames from 1938-46 (with the exception of 1940). Could I use any of these, would they be pretty interchangeable??

Does anyone know what frames would work for my project?

sounds to me like you need a truck that you can tack some '40 bits on to if you don't have a chassis or cab, what is it you want to "interchange"? might be best off looking at the GM resto packs to see what changed most in those years to decide if the parts you have would fit

Well don't plan to change too much except I can't find a 40 frame anywhere...I know of a 40 cab but as far As frames there are no 40s but other years available readily... I want to know what would work

Can I use a 1938 or a 46? Where would I look this up

most of the info kits are here, check the one for 40 for critical dimensions of frame and cab, compare other years you find available

Wow I didn't realize there were so many variations in the frames in just 41-46...so frames were ever extended behind the rears so even tho wheel bases were the same some frames were makes as short and also extended.

the cabs and front metal didn't change with different models nor much across years, no point in them designing a whole new frame just to make a longer bed, deck or WB - what you'll find critical is that front part, particularly the width with respect to mounting the cab
