Is there anyway to relocate the gas tank on a 51 half ton under the bed and keep the spare tire carrier? I want to move the tank but I don't like the look of a side spare tire mount. This vehicle will be a daily driver so I must have a spare. Thanks!

Sure their is but you'll have to fabricate your own brackets to hold it up. The early AD's had the tank under the bed on the passenger side with the filler neck on the side of the bed. You could get a tank off a Nissan truck in the 80's for instance and place it in that location. Other small trucks have the tanks in that area so you can take your pick.

There has been many threads regarding fuel tank relocation. A search will give you many opinions that have already been posted.

Here's my current thinking. In building up my '51 3100, I'm using a smaller saddle tank taken from a long bed with ~15 gallon capacity. Looks like there will be plenty of room for the spare under this tank. I think you cannot expect to put a deep 30 gallon tank behind the rearend and expect there to be enough room to hang the spare in addition.

Others may have contrary opinions (sometimes that happens here at the 'Bolt!!), but a smaller tank will allow room "to spare!" :p :p

I've got a 30-gallon tank relocated to where the spare tire was, and there ain't NO room left for a spare! My spare is in the bed right now ... until I decide where I'm gonna put it. I may just keep it in the bed and make a nice cover for it.

I have a 54 half tone. I took a tank from a mid 80s long bed and mounted it under the bed on the passenger side. I'm not a welder so i had a shop move the filler tank and vent to the top. They also made a custom filler tube to meet up with the stock location on the truck. The only problem was getting the gauge to match the sender but I found a shop in LA that does that. Works great and i didn't have to move the spare tire.
