I replaced the old flasher.
the turn signal switch is a ua.
the truck is a 53 with a new wire harness. all the lights have a separate ground to the frame.

here's the deal:
with the flasher wires yellow and orange hooked to the flasher p and e respectively the turn signal indicator on the end of the switch blinks but the lights do not.
swap the orange and yellow wires on the flasher and the lights work but the indicator does not.

i'm still troubleshooting.

as with any electrical problems (especially with lights), check/add grounds. Lights can do some funky things when not grounded (as I have recently found out).

I just installed a new flasher unit, turn signal switch and taillights... took a day to get them working right. Had to drill and solder in ground wires from the taillight to the bed. Once I did... they worked perfectly AND bright!

Another "as with any electrical problems"-Don't go randomly swapping wires. You will eventually ruin something that wasn't bad to start with. Get a multi-meter and troubleshoot the problem.

The indicator light, on the switch will need a ground as well. Try clamping a wire to the column where the switch is clamped and ground it to the dash. It might be all that is wrong. The column is painted and has a rubber isolator at the dash. I know it is bolted to the frame, but the turn signal switch is just clamped to the paint on the column.

That sounds like the turn signal wire should be swapped back. Then sort out why the indicator light is not getting a voltage. There is a very good "Tech Tip" on how your switch is hooked up. Mine is the old style and has fewer wires and 2 indicator lights. Requires separate lights for the signals. So I have 2 tail lights on each side of the truck at the back. One is for brake lights and the other is for signals. But the tech tip is for your type of switch that integrates the brake and turn circuits. Happy hunting.
