The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline 54 3100 Rear leaf Spring Comparability Issue

I recently purchased a set of leaf springs off of a 1954 GMC 1/2 ton to put on my 1954 Chevy 3100. I fugured they would be compatible. The front springs worked okay and bolted right up, but the rear springs turns out the alignment bolt in the middle of the spring is nearly 2 inches closer to the shackle bushing then the spring I removed from the truck.

Are the rear springs from a 54 GMC different than those on their Chevrolet counterpart?

One thing I found attractive about the springs is that they're 10 leaf.

Were both equipped with torque tube rear end? Any chance one of them was a 55 1st series?

According to my Hollander's Manual, the same springs were used for '47-'54 GMC and Chevy half tons.

Do you have an open driveline rear end? Early model '55s had the same cab as '54 and open driveline. The hole in those springs is near center of the springs. You could have a '55 first series originally bought in and titled as a '54.

Excellent point. I didn't think of that. The person I bought this from stated that his GMC pickup was a 54. It may in fact it may have been a 55 1st series. I know the 55 1st had an open drive shaft.

My truck is a 54 with enclosed drive shaft.

If the hole is centered between the eyes it most likely is for a '55 first.

The alignment pin IS centered between the bushing eyes, so it looks like I have a pair of 1955 1st rear, 10 leaf, leaf springs.
