Here's what it looks like (looking down from above): http://i.imgur.com/9a1oCpdl.jpgBoth the link to offset rod and the offset rod are at an angle. Is this correct? The link-to-offset rod rubs against the crossmember slightly. What's wrong with this? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | there will be a slight angle to both, and the pieces do come very close to things - there are 'nubs' on the rod that sit on each side of the eye, is the 'L' too far into the eye? then there's the return spring missing in that pic, which will pull against the angle, and should be a nut on each side of the clutch fork too, maybe you just need to 'tighten up' the clutch adjustment?

Yes, just mocked it up with some tension to get the idea of it. No nuts came with the rod so I need to buy some and the spring just wasn't hooked up. The spring from the small eye on the rod to the post on the bell house, yes? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | not sure on spring route for your year, various places were used ... I'd expect it to work fine once bolted up and adjusted, the angles and change over time with clutch adjustment is why that linkage is made that way, sloppy and forgiving Bill | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 367 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 367 | Sloppy and forgiving. Ha. But as you said, easier than any other setups. Is the spring all that keeps the rods from not being connected? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the spring helps position things, but mainly the tension of the clutch against the linkage keeps the pieces together, along with those nubs on the rod
