OK, I have a Rochester 1barrol, that is leaking...pouring out of the firewall side. One guy said to try tightening it..but my back is out so I'm using this time to ask. I got a gasket set and before I get into tearing it down(never did it before)does it sound like the float is hungn up....Tomorrow is the day, back or not!....Thanks , Paul

Yes the symptom would indicate a float or needle and seat problem. Rochester is very vulnerable to cover warping if the screws are tightened too much so be wary.

There is a real good video or two to watch on the internet while your back heals. Search "Rochester B1 carburetor". Tells how to fix warp, leaks and step by step rebuild "tricks". Depends on where it is pouring out, gasket seal area, throttle shaft, etc.

Could be float, needle, warpage, as noted above. Advice: Rebuild per internet videos and check flatness of mating surfaces. Gaskets usually last a long time. Have you done anything to carb? Did this just happen out of nowhere? When is last time it was opened up? Dirt particles can get in and around needle and seat or they are degraded by time. A good cleaning and rebuild usually fixes all. New filters a must. Does it run good? It should have trouble idling or running under load to confirm dirt in system. Adding more gaskets or tightening would be the wrong procedure. If you find warpage you can fix several ways. Others here can state what works best and is the safest. As I said above there are videos and they do address warpage.
