Then I noticed that the brake lights were on all the time. I see that the actuation arm on the brake light switch is missing now. Is there something other than the switch actuation arm that stops the brake pedal arm in its travel back up to the firewall? I have a new Standard parts switch on the way from Rock Auto. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | you can get those switches at NAPA, Standard SLS43 or ColeHersee 8487 .... originally there was only a 'stop' bumper on the clutch pedal arm, like this, you could put one on the brake pedal arm, but if everything is positioned properly it shouldn't need it, the pedal doesn't push the switch arm far - maybe your connection to the master cyl needs adjusting or maybe the switch just fatigued Bill | | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 217 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 217 | Many Thanks, Bill, My local NAPA, a couple miles away, had the switch (NAPA/ECHLIN #SL132) in stock. I'll have the one from Rock Auto as a spare.... The '55 is pretty much my daily driver, and now I can have it back on line tomorrow early AM. The switch arm is swaged onto the shaft, is must have worn and then slipped off. | | |
