There is a 5/8" thick adapter plate to match both the trans and the bell housing made by Vintage Metalworks. If I don't use the adapter plate I would be needing to redrill the bell housing so I can mount it to the SM420 trans along with enlarging the center hole on the bell housing to mate with the SM420. My question is with the adapter plate the trans would now be moved back 5/8" and the input shaft is now only 1/4" in the pilot bearing what problems are there with the clutch and pressure plate if any. Is there any thing I am missing. 1-262-392-2989 or [email protected]Marv.

If I use my original bell housing without the adapter I would need to enlarge the center hole and drill new mounting holes in the bell housing were there is not as much thickness to support the trans. Would prefer to use the adapter but the 1/4" in the pilot bearing and clutch issues are my worries. What does the pilot bearing do besides alining the output shaft of the transmission to the engine?

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks. Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.
As of 10-26-2022, A 55.2 Taskforce long bed now the work begins

My bell housing has side mounts motor mounts with the three holes for the brake and clutch pedal. Bell housings 1948-53 will take the SM420 trans without the adapter but do not have the three holes to mount the pedals. I know I can get a modified bell housing with three holes welded to the side but I was hoping to see if there was another way someone has tried.
