The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Brace Rods

Hello all, I'm working on restoring a 1949 Chevy pickup. I have disassembled the truck and took notes and some pictures!! As I contemplate re- :confused: assembling my truck I noticed that I have (2) rods thats 26 1/2" long and shaped like the fender brace rods that I have forgot where they belong. Can you help me with there location? I believe they belong somewhere in the front end.

Lonnie, if these braces are flattened at one end with two holes to receive bolts and threaded at the other end, they are the diagonal fender braces located in the engine compartment. The flattened ends are connected to the firewall (near the center) with 5/16"-18 x 5/8" cap screws into captured hex nuts. At the fender ends, the threaded rods are connected to v-shaped brackets using 3/8"-16 hex nuts and washers (see pic below)

Thanks Larry, but the rods are flat on both ends. They look exactly like the fender brace rods but longer. Same angle of the ends as the fender brace rods.

They go from the core support to the lower rad baffle.

Ahh! Clears things up for me. 54-55 1st series do not have those braces.
