I picked up a 550 parts truck yesterday that I bought near Houston. It has everything I need to convert a fire truck with hydraulic brakes to straight air and tractor equipped. I will probably cut the fire truck frame right behind the cab and do the same with the LCF and stick the two together.

Are the frames the same width on the conventionals, & the LCF's on '55-'59 models. I know on the '47-'54 models the conventional frames are 36 inches wide, while the COE frames a 34 inches wide.

I measured last night and they are both 34". 34" is still the standard for larger trucks. 5th wheels, truck bodies etc. are all built for 34" frames. I have a 53 with a service cab on it and I recently got a 54. Both of them have grain boxes on them and I have never measured the frame width. The frame height on the 550 LCF and the 550 conventional is the same as the over the road trucks we use today so I will already have a glove for the splice. I may not even bother to Z cut it. I may just cut it straight and depend on the glove for strength. The gloves are 110,000 psi steel and thats a lot stronger than the old frames ever were.

Ken, thats how the shop that did my cut off did it. They do a lot of frame mods to working trucks so I am more than confident.
We need to see some more pictures of your project!
