For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 21 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 21 | I recently purchased a 53 3600 short bed for parts. The trucks chassis had been restored but its better shape than my 1/2 ton i started out with. I have way more parts for a short bed 3100. Wondering if its a smart or stupid idea to shorten the 3600 and use all 3100 running gear on this chassis.....any input is greatly appreciated ! I am not looking for a show truck but just a good looking classic that suits my needs and wants. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,310 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,310 | I am confused (easily done, BTW). You state,"53 3600 short bed for parts". Then you ask, "to shorten the 3600". My first question is, is there such a beast as a short bed 3600? If there is, why would it need to be shortened? I will bet Denny G. will have all of your answers when he wakes up at oh six hundred tomorrow. Carl

If it were down here I'd say the front axle assy. would fit but I would think you'd have your share of problems at the rear.

I thought the 3600 came with a 7'6" bed (or whatever the actual measurement was)? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,248 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,248 | Yeah a lot of differences in the rear hangers and frame even on a 3/4 ton. Maybe just shorten the 3/4 ton chassis??

I have new box sides and all new parts for the 52 3100. The box is about 9 inches longer on the 3600 than the 3100. Not a real fan of the longer box trucks. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,596 | What did you buy? The complete truck or just a restored chassis for parts? Please give us a bit more information as we're unclear on what you're asking. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,248 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,248 | This could be interesting. The first short bed 3/4 ton. Shorten the chassis and the driveshaft.....hmmm Or how about an extended cab AD truck, seen that done one time at a car show.

I bought it mainly for the cab but being bought sight unseen i didnt know that chassis had been done. I had only seen pictures of the cab. When it was shipped the owner pieced the truck roughly back together to my suprise. I'm not sure on all the specifications for the 3600 in regards of wheelbase etc. Two years ago i bought a shortbox 3100 well its a 1300 canadian built truck. The cab is to far gone and the chassis was rusted out in one spot that had moss growin on it. This is the reason for making one truck out of two on the 3/4 ton chassis. | | |
