I know LMC pretty much has everything, but I`m trying to make the decision on swapping frames, drive trains, etc. Around where I live in Saskatchewan, Canada...Been told the 1948-52 or so 1/2 tons are hard to come by. I just want to know I made the right decision is all. Its a shortbox, original drive train, new 16" rubber. Does have an extra trans and rad that would likely need rebuilt. I`m unsure whether its worth the hassly of looky loos.

cletis, allow me to interpret for the Canadian. A 'looky loo' (loos plural)is a person who comes to look at your parts for sale, usually with no intention of buying them. The Canadian above might be asking if they were to swap their current original frame for something more modern, would there be a market for their original frame? Well that's my take anyway.

IMHO...

Original is always golden around where I'm from and you mention original is hard to come by in your parts. Cheaper to fix what is there than spend money on something unless it is what YOU want. Personally I would do a frame swap on a truck that has a frame swap gone wrong (and is probably for sale really cheap). It is only original once and probably wont be worth as much as when it is a 92 s-10.

Being in Western Canada, I can honestly say that a well done frame swapped truck is worth much more than a 100% restored truck. They're also cheaper to do as well, it's much more expensive to get parts for the original stuff around here.

If what you're asking is whether or not the original frame and drivetrain is worth anything, unless it's 100% restored, don't expect to get more than a couple hundred dollars for it.

I need to come there and snatch up some for a couple hundred then! My buddy just paid 8k for an unrestored one because it was original and unmolested. You guys can probably come here and pickup some cheap frame swaps here. Guess location plays a strong role in these things.

I live not far from the original poster in Saskatchewan, Canada. I was at a farm auction this May where the old timer had collected AD trucks for many many years.

There were perhaps twenty 1/2 tons for sale however most were rusted, parts missing, engines seized, etc... Drivetrains & chassis mostly appeared complete. These trucks sold for about $500 to $1000, with the high being $1500 and the low being $100. The $1500 truck could probably have been put on the road with little effort. The more expensive trucks looked to me like they had better cabs & panels (ie minimal rust).

There were also a few 3/4 tons, 1 tons etc.. and these seemed to sell for about $300.

The engine accessories like starters and generators were effectively free or disposed. I bought a bucket of horns for $5.

I missed out on that sale, Stove. 46gmcpu, you are correct, just wanted to see what original equipment was worth for resale. Just found out: For $2000 plus taxes, I can get a body mount kit, V-8 mounts, crossmember, body bushings and the steering brackets for the s-10 conversion. I don't like the kits, they mount the body fairly high and overcomplicate a few parts of it. If you can fabricate the mounts yourself you can do it A LOT cheaper than that, and it's not all that difficult.

I still haven't figured out what the thread started as but it seems to have turned into a discussion of frame swaps. That needs to be discussed in HiPo.
