hi guys, my 49 3100 is 12v with a key start but id like to have it look a bit more original so was wondering if it was possible to install a modified foot starter coupled up to an electric switch to the starter solenoid. in other words create an `electric` foot starter using original parts

has anyone done this before?

I'd put all the original correct parts back on if you have the old bell housing would be pretty easy. Without bell housing to attach the pedal assy to would make it more difficult.

You can install a push button, normally open, momentary switch actuated by foot start pedal to energize the electro magnetic solenoid.(fake foot starter). The actual removable switch on an original foot start starter would not be suitable for your plan. It is however, a momentary switch. You want a robust, heavy duty, sealed version. Several older farm tractors have foot-operated switches that would be suitable for floor mounting with a fake stomper pedal and rubber boot adapted to the top of the switch. One of the members here posted a picture of that type of conversion that looked to be pretty simple and it was hard to tell it was not the original stomp start system.

I'm going to try this with mine as well. Seems like too cool of a feature to lose.

I have, I put a heavy duty momentary switch where the stomp pedal goes looks kind of like it belong. It fools the people who don't know the difference but not the ones who know.
