My truck is currently Burgundy maroon with black fenders, but it needs to be repainted. I'm trying to decide on a good color and I want it original for '53. Kinds of thinking of trying something like the transport blue, but I haven't seen a photo of a truck painted this color. Also, any suggestions out there as to what two-tone color might still be original but go well with transport blue? I guess I'm also looking for some photos that would let me see the color on the truck. A small paint chip just doesn't do it for me. Thanks.

Although you sometimes see Advance Design trucks with fenders a different color from the body, this is not original. Two tone paint jobs were not original on any of the ADs, at least before 1954. The only second color that would have appeared on a 1953 would be the pinstripe around the cab.

Thanks for the info Jeff. I'd heard that before, but then I've also heard you could get two-tone earlier, but it was an expensive option.

Rick,
If you have chips for colors you are thinking about using like transport blue, see if your paint supplier can mix a small(1/2 pint)amount for you to put on a part to test. You could also compare a new sample to recently used factory colors and find something new with that color and look at full size vehicles that way. My local DuPont jobber has computer codes for the original colors so I know they are available. I'm going through the same process now to pick a color for my 48 Suburban. Paint chips don't do it for me either. If you don't have the codes for the original colors let me know and I'll send them to you.

In the Advanve Design series, 2 tone paint jobs were avaliable from the factory BUT, only in the GMC line. If you want the truck to be original, I would start by scraping on the firewall to find out which color the truck was originally from the factory.
