Darcy,

Could be a replacement door?

Could be a late 1950 truck registered in 1951?

Could be Canadian trucks changed to vent-windows later?

What is the engine serial number?

Yes it is. I`m dumb founded as to not being able to decipher this tag. I tried this site and it comes up as a 1960. Am I correct?

http://www.gregwapling.com/hotrod/chev-trucks-47-55/canadian-chev.html

the first 0 might indicate its a 50,

I doubt if a decoder on this site would properly decode a Canadian tag.

The USA trucks had a different Vehicle Serial Number tags and they contain different codes/information compared to the third link in the first post.

Here is the pertinent information for DADS50 link (nice find - this had been posted by a Hemming site for many years and then it disappeared):

1950: 0 then:
11/91 then 32 etc. 1 ½ Ton 137” w.b. 29.4 H.P.>
11/91 then 42 etc. 1 ½ Ton 161” w.b.
13/93 then 12 etc. ½ Ton 116” w.b.
13/93 then 14 Pick-up Delivery 116” w.b.

As DADS50 posted:
01314 preface = 0 13 14 = 1950 Pickup Delivery 116" w.b.

Hy darcy32171, your serial number is that of a Canadian 1950 Chevrolet pickup, hope that helps. Happy Canada Day!

DADS50, I`m sure it has. There is a couple scratches that shows an orangy color underneath.

This truck was Willed to him by his late brother. He was told his nephew had been horsing around at the farm with it and it quit. He figured it was the timing chain. Wasn`t till I got home to see videos that they don`t run a timing chain. I can roll the fan back and forth and the crank moves, but it locks up. Until I get a gasket set for this 216, I`ll wait. I want to pull the side covers and see if it isn`t a bent push rod or something.

So that's the way GM tagged Canadian trucks? It resembles later US trucks and cars.. Wish I had that style on my '50 instead of the stamped/printed style it was issued with. The other style gives more info.

I think they had the 216 in it. Which ones had two bolts holding valve cover on and the long single cover over the push rods? I thought all flat six`s had the dual covers.

You double posted this question. What dual covers are you referring to?

https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthread...in=153343&Number=1039001#Post1039001

All 216/235/261 engines had one side cover. These engines are in-line sixes (not flat six?).

Most likely you have a 216. In Canada, some 216s and some 235s has long side covers or short side covers. You need to ID the year and size of your engine.
