Maybe someone on here knows a part number to look for rather than a vague description from me to the parts guy.
I am replacing the enclosed driveline 3 speed transmission in my 1947 chevy with all stock cross members. I will be using a saginaw 4 speed and a later style bellhousing so the saginaw bolts up. My issue for now is that I can't find the mounts for the side of the later bellhousing. Anyone know what I am talking about?

You should be looking for a 1948ish to 1954 chevy or gmc 6 cylinder bellhousing. The rear engine mounts would be the same for your stock application. All of the parts suppliers like Jim Carter or the filling station, or many ohers should have them in stock ready to ship.
If you are using a 1955-1962 bellhousing with the "angled" mounts, you will need to make or modify a crossmember to take the 1955 and later motor mounts. It may be possible to source a crossmember from a 1955.1 truck, or simply weld in a later crossmember.

If your 1947 is the new "Advance Design" truck then the only bellhousing that will have the correct mount design and Saginaw bolt pattern is the 1948-53 trucks. If it is an early "Art Deco" 47 then you have a can of worms.

I solved this easily with an adapter- trans to Sag 4 speed. These adapters are around will need to search, Buffalo Ent makes these and other. The mounts should be in stock at usual vendors Jim Carter, chevs of 40s etc. Best of luck
P.S. Found mounts at Rockauto.com under $10 ea.

To clarify it is an ad style 47 with a 235 that once used the side mounts so it is a later style 235. The trans is a saginaw 4 speed. I found a guy locally that is parting out the drivetrain of a 1953 chevy truck so i will get the bellhousing from him to save some headache. Thanks again. | | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 163 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 163 | Oh while I have all of your attentions I know this is not the parts wanted section, but I am needing a good stock floor shift 3 speed transmission that would have bolted up to the small bellhousing pattern. | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | Since you're in AZ, check with Patricks Antique Auto Parts in Casa Grande, he did have a huge bone yard. | | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 163 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 163 | Last time I checked with patricks, nothing was for sale as a scrap yard because the trucks he has were for his restoration trucks. | | |
