Hey Guys

Did my homework cleared off my block number and wired my hood so that the vin tag and the block were visible easily for the state police. Ran my vin number using the vin buster app here.

I waited over a year for the reply to my application for the vin inspection so I loaded her up and drove her to the state police headquarters.

The drivers licensing division also handles vin inspection. Apparently a fun day of giving driving test put my inspector into a funk. I tried to chat him up but he was in a hurry to finish and his mood never improved.

He refused my paper work on the vin buster and the actual vin. He said the plate "appears" moved - which its rusted to where its currently residing so "any moving" was done a long time ago...:)

He decided the block was the way to go. Unfortunately my block is 1954. So now my 1946 chevy pickup is going to have a 1954 title. Ugh...double ugh actually. Maybe I should have installed the 1938 216 block... just kidding.

He also was rampantedly adamant that the ONLY color this truck came in was Black. I tried to coax him into looking at the web page on the colors she came in and that was met with a STERN LOOK.

hahahahaha.

I can only say I tried to have everything in order and for this to go smoothly. Swing and a miss

oh yeah. He bade me follow him inside to finish the process. And he looked up a couple of things on the computer.

He said "the good news is your block's not stolen"....

I had to laugh.

Man I hope I don't have to go through this hoopla when the time comes!

It's laughable he said they only came in black but it's unfortunate that he was so adamant about that... I find when trying to get stuff done for old vehicles so many people with some kind of power think they know something and when you try to correct them they get ignorant. Sorry to hear about your difficulties.

I'm so glad we don't have to deal with the title process up here.

I believe this is SOP (standard operating proceedure) in many states, we have the same here where I live. I found a private service that handles DMV business for a reasonable fee. When I got my 53 off the farm it had zero papers, this lady at the service said, "no problem DMV has a form for every situation". A week later I had my new title, plates etc.

These types of services mostly do the DMV leg work for car dealerships vs general public, so they do exist but under the radar.

Just got my Bonded Title and registration back this week. Applied for it last September. I was able to get Antique tags for a 3 ton truck only because it's a firetruck. The hard part was finding insurance. Finally Farmers gave me liability for $104 a year. Good luck with yours DinoKruzOrdinance.

It truly depends on WHO you get at the DFA counter-I was told mine was "too old" for the out of state VIN inspection process on my '64 suburban bought from Colorado. Paid for the tags, got my new title in a few days. We live in the same state.

Yeh, I'm in Russellville area. Been driving mine around a little to get parts and test my tuneup lack of skills.

First thing to do is get it titled in your name BEFORE spending time and $$ on it. Otherwise you may join the legion of owners that are selling their rides cheap because they can't get a title.

Oklahoma is the best titling state as I understand it. And I agree titling your ride should be the first order of business before spending any money further.

I have a friend that got an abandoned title on vdub bus that was left on a farmers property for over 10 years. He began to trick out and documented the van rebuild on Facebook. He built a really nice hopped up motor and posted on Facebook he was putting it in the ride over the weekend.

Monday morning the abandoning owner and the sheriff showed up to collect "His" vdub. Apparantly he was following the build on facebook too.

Luckly my friend didn't get around to putting the motor in that weekend so he didn't lose it. But the van left for now.

Thank goodness our state doesn't require vin numbers, inspections or even old Titles for vintage vehicles. I am not sure the cutoff but I think its 1980 or older. Just show up at the DMV with a bill of sale showing whatever VIN number you write down and the new title is in the mail.
