I've had trouble stopping leaks around the windshield on this dang '40. I do have a new gasket but I'm thinking maybe it is too stiff. Is there a trick to getting a good seal or is it just the way it is? tia

you can A. pull it out really soap the seal up and reinstall Or B. my Favrite go to your local auto store get beutal caulking. (napa normally has it)put either a thin stick and pull the seal out a little while you caulk right into the gap. normally works best if you have three hands but if you dont cut the very end of the tip off. so you have a small openning, use that like it was the stick and just shove in the gap keep it in the gap while you caulk all the way around.
I like using beutal because it never really hardens and if your windsheild leaks again you can add more or just move whats already there around a little.

I still want to be able to crank it out especially since the good weather is coming. The seal is fine on the class side, just doesn't seal against the cab. Looks OK but the rain finds its way in.

Have you figured out exactly where the leak is occuring?

If you don't already have a Steele rubber gasket in there I would get one, and cement the gasket in on the body side. Then look for the dent or creased spot where it is leaking, and fix it. The windshield probably isn't setting flat against the seal.

The r/h leaks some from the top and both on the outer lower corners in heavy rain down the freeway. I've heard Steele mentioned before as high quality. Not sure what brand I have now. Do you know of a good place to get one?

They sell direct. $41 is their list price on the part.

Their rubber is night and day better than anyone else's.

The windshield frame can also be adjusted side to side and in or out at the windshield hinge to cab mount.

I've fiddled with the adjustment but should probably check that closer. Steele shows vulcanized and another called 'weatherstrip' which is a 11' length. Looks like you are recommending the weatherstrip. Any pros and cons other than $51 vulcanized, $41 weatherstrip?

Dennis - Either one will work for you. I used the vulcanized one on my 46 because It's one piece, like a big rubber band. With the weatherstrip type you have to make sure you don't cut it too short or you'll have a gap where it joins together. These things tend to move around and shrink over time so you have to make sure to cut it long and work it around so it fits.

With the vulcanized one you don't have these problems. Mine fit perfectly, I don't know if it leaks cus we don't get much rain here and if it did rain I wouldn't be driving my 46 anyway wink

Good luck
George

OK, I'm going to order the vulcanized one and see what happens. This is my daily driver so living in the NW it won't take long to test it. Thanks all for your suggestions.
