Hello everyone, I've purchased replacement seat covers for my 48 suburban. My installation question is (how do I fasten the seat cover to the seat frame that have the pinch groves.) I get the others that use the "C" clips but I can't figure out the pinch grove.

On my 1954 Suburban, the "jump seat" does use the "C clips". Hog rings seem to be appropriate on these two cushions

All other seat cushions have an outer groove for the C clips. They work great, but they are a pain in the ... to remove.

If you are using Jim Carter's installation kits, it is inadequate. You will need a piece of short-nap carpet or your butt will feel the springs. Maybe someone else will comment (hopefully Denny Graham).

Tim, thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm using burlap over the springs then jute over that and then the 2" cotton badding and finally the Jim Carter seat cover. My jump seat has the pinch grove not the option for c clips. If anyone had info on this I'd appreciate it.

I think you should read all of the posts.only two seat cushions were done free,that leaves six that I did.

Here's a picture of my lower jump seat cushion. lower jump seat cushion I did this one.
Upper jump back cushion. jump back cushion I believe it has a few hog rings at the bottom of it.This is one of the ones the upholstery shop did because of the mistake in the pattern template.I didn't use any hog rings on the cushions I did. I don't think it will be a problem using them.

The material lays in the groove then the c-clip is installed on top of the material in the groove holding it in place.

I watched a bunch of upholstery videos on YouTube then tackled it myself.

Hey Tim,

Ok here's what I figured out. I have a mix of seat spring sets. The one style uses the C clip over the frame edge and the other style uses the C clips outer side in the seats bottom channel. So I used a bottle opener to expand the channel to accept the fabric and the C clip. Pretty cool. Thank you for the pictures. I would have sent pictures like you did but I really don't know how. Sounds and looks like you have the right cushion springs to me.
I used a o-ring removal tool that had a 90 degree angle on it"ice pick",it takes time removing all of the C-clips.
