Mine looks like all that wrong with it is the
flat metal strap that connects the terminal
with the Resistor switch is broken.

My thought would be this; If the strip have broken from years of sloshing, the other parts must be worn out too. For the cost and labor involved, it seems like sticking a brand new one in would be the best move. Why don't you be the first to fix this deal and let us know how it turns out. I have fixed them when the connections are bad at the mounting plate. I also have taken the reostat part from a salvage that didn,t fit the application & put in one that did. I don,t see why you couldn,t solder it back. Test it before you put it in with an ohm meter or hook it to the wire & ground & put it through the motion with someone watching the gauge.
