So I've read all the great Stovebolt tech tips on hood fitting. Not much help though, still popped up at the cowl area. A local AD specialist suggested I look at the frontclip mounts to see it they are correct (or even there), all that looks good. So for the heck of it I removed the front most hood spring hinge (with the large round spring), and left the rear hinge in place. This dropped the rear of the hood to right where it should be, but of course will not hold the hood up on its own anymore. Do you guys think the hinges need to be replaced? They have a lot of play in them side to side at the rivets, and the shoulder bolt holes. Is this my problem or am I still missing something? This is my last panel alignment issue before I remove the front clip for paint. Also anybody know if I can get the small 'T' shaped spring that acts as the return for the hood safety catch at the front? Cant find one in my catalogs. Thanks.

Does the hood fit down into the cowl at the sides? Close to the curved recess just in front of the door? It must fit this curve nice and close to pull the hood down enough to "stretch" it over the long weather strip on the cowl. If you have a gap at this place lower the hinge if you can on both sides and see if that helps. You can adjust them in and out to flush the hood with the cowl. If the hinge is too loose It will be difficult to get both adjustments right. The Tech Tip from Mac Kinghorn is very good. here is the link.

I found the best way to get the hood where you wanted is a simple initial install. Then measure how far you need to move the hood (back and down) to fit properly against the cowl. Then, remove the hood, mark the hinge location with tape and move the hinges the appropriate amount in both directions (both sides. Refit the hood and presto, hood fits nicely. Might have to repeat once or twice. Make sure the hood supports are installed before measuring. This method takes the affect of the hood supports out of the equation.

Shimming up the radiator/core support simple closes the gap between center of hood and cowl.
