I’m at the point where I need to connect the temp and oil senders. I’m still waiting on the new gauge cluster I bought from Brothers. I know that the temp connects to the water pump but where does the oil gauge connect to? On the intake manifold there’s a sender, but I’m not 100% sure if this is an old temp sender that was just left in. We’re talking about a 327sb.
Let me know if you need more info (maybe a pic or two – if you don’t see what you’re looking for on my cardomain site).

It is 1/8 " pipe threads. If you are using original gauges it uses a tube that goes to the gauge from this outlet with the proper fitting. If you have electric gauge the sender will go in the outlet. The temp unit goes in a 1/2" pipe outlet on the intake near the therm. Some later heads have an outlet between the 2 front spark plugs on the left side & between the last 2 on the right hand side. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. The temperature sending unit can go in the pump housing, or in the intake manifold, or wherever it can dip its feet in coolant. You won't find any oil tap in the manifold, but right at the back of the valley, near the distributor in the block proper, there should be a plug that accesses the oil gallery. There is probably somewhere else too, but I know that this was a popular spot for either a sending unit or a fitting for a mechanical gauge.

I not only have a sender on the water pump and intake manifold, but also a 1/8th line coming up from behind the dist. cap. I wasn't sure what that was and wasn't too concerned since it wasn't leaking anything. I’ll clean this up and pick up the electronic senders for the new gauge cluster. On a side note, I consider myself more of a body man then a mechanic (obviously). As I get more involved with the engine I'll be leaning on the experts here for guidance. Though, I shouldn't need to in the immediate future as this power house seems to be in great shape (mechanically) Thanks again guys! I truly appreciate your help. HC | | |
