I have a 1950 3100 that has a blown up 216 motor. I also have a 48 1 1/2 ton or 2 ton grain truck with what I belive has a 216 motor also. I was going to take the motor out of the grain truck and put it in the 3100 pickup but a mechanic told me that they had run into an issue a while back that the motors were not the same and woud not work in the 3100. Anyone know for sure if this is the case? Thanks,

The engine should be a 235, and will work in the pickup.

The big truck motor may have a governor on it, but the motor itself will fit just fine.

The first thing is to identify that the engine in your grain truck is indeed a 216. There is a chance that it could be a 235. That shouldn't matter, they are physically the same size engine, the displacement is different. If it is mounted in your grain truck there should be no difference in mounting in your 3100 using your bell housing/flywheel/clutch etc.

Use these TECH TIPS to help you identify what you have.
