I have had my 1955.1 GMC for almost two years. For the first year, it was in my friend's driveway since he was living someplace else. Then he decided to rent the house and I lost my free storage. It has since been in my driveway staring at me. Since my friends see it all the time with the complete lack of any progress, I catch a lot of flack. No more! It is time to work on the truck. Well, for now at least. I am getting married in the fall, so the truck will likely be reevaluated. Wish me luck on that. Anyway, I am looking for a body shop in the Dallas, TX area. I plan to split the rust repair (there is a lot of it) between a body shop and myself. I have no idea what I am doing, so a body shop that will tolerate a ton of questions is ideal. I will be learning to weld as part of this rust repairing party of many years. Can you help me out by giving recommendations?

Here she is when we moved her to my house from my friends. And then a picture from this weekend. The truck bed was all over the back yard.

Just let the body shop do it before you get married. Will be easier to fund when its just you. When it's her's too, well, good luck.

Clean looking Jimmy though. Shouldn't take too much. Most of it looks to be there.

What about KC at GasMonkey? He does work at his house.

He might be able to point you in the right direction.

Just a thought.

The only things I have heard about GasMonkey are not positive, so I really have not followed them. Which one is KC?

I would be interested in some shops too. I am moving to Plano at the end of the month and my 55 needs some touch up work done.

What negative things have you heard about GasMonkey?

What part of Dallas? I don't know if they still do, but once upon a time Merriman Park Automotive did good body work & paint on some classic cars/trucks. They're not on the beaten path...sort of hidden behind Jake's on Skillman (north of where it intersects Abrams). Nice people who run it and honest. Truthfully, you're going to need to find a shop similar to that. I could tell you some places to avoid, but it isn't my style. Another possibility (although I don't know if they paint whole cars any more) is Orbit Automotive (on Forest Lane). Very honest people and good friends of mine for a long time. The owner has a terrific knowledge of old cars.

I live in north east Dallas, but I am willing to drive wherever. Merriman Park Automotive is pretty close to me. I have driven down that road a hundred times going to Jake's and never noticed a body shop. I will have to go find it this weekend.

Turn right on Walling Lane and when you pass Jake's turn left. There will be an antique mall and you will drive along side of that on the way back to Merriman Park Automotive. Curtis' place (Orbit) is much easier to find. Take Forest Lane (east) off of 75 and it will be across from a USPS building.
