I plan to put a TPI 350 v-8 in a '62 C-10 , which has an original 235 in it now. I believe I will have to run a new wire from the ignition switch to the TPI coil since I believe the present wiring is resister wiring. Am I correct on this, or is there no need to replace the ignition wire ? My second question is the alternator. Will the present one which I believe is either original or an original replacement be enough to handle the F.I. electronics includingl the electric fuel pump ? Thanks in advance.

Tim K,

I think you are right on the resistance wire to the coil. If your TPI setup wants full voltage, you will have install a conventional wire. I think your truck originally came with a generator. If it has been changed to a alternator, hopefully it was a more modern internally regulated style...no voltage regulator on the firewall.

A electric fuel pump isn't a power hog, so I'll bet a average alternator would be sufficient for the task. New alternators are cheap and can be had in moderate amp and high amp outputs which would replace yours if need be. What other items do you plan for the truck that might need extra power?

Stuart
