The attaching holes in the front of the rear fender were filled w/ bondo. The metal reinforcing brace/plate seems to have been riveted to the front of the fender and are pretty well rusted and eventually will be removed/replaced. Plate was obviously to reinforce the fender/R.B. connection. Short of making a replacement myself, does anyone know of a supplier for these? I can't find one in any of my catalogs. Thanks. | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | I had to make mine. Used 18 gauge steel. They are spot welded not riveted on the inside of the rear fender. The holes are for the bolts to running board through the brace. Pretty simple to make.

Like I said the outside was smooth with 'Mr. Bondo". I'll take your suggestion. Doesn't look hard but thought someone 'might' have them available. | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 442 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 442 | I also made my own Jim, secured they with J B Weld, and C clamps to hold them until they set up | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | If you can see an outline of the old plate inside the fender like I could on mine, just lay a piece of tracing paper over it to get the size and shape and bolt hole locations. Where you spot weld or jb weld really doesn't matter as long as it holds.

Just have to grind out the old bondo and tar that has accumulated on the 'tread pattern' along the inside of the fender. Another of the experiences of bringing things back to original.....or close to it!! :-) | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 17 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 17 | Oh the things you learn from reading the forums. I didn't realize that the plate was supposed to be there. Due to the rust right there I assumed the extra plate was a previous attempt to patch the spot. I just finished patching the passenger side, and am in the process of patching the drivers side. I guess I'll have put the running board, and fender back on drill the holes in the fender and then fit the extra plate. -pete | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,554 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,554 | We made mine as well, they are actually spot welded to the inside of the fender. 1951 3100 Chevrolet1951 Chevrolet Suburban CarryallImage"A house is built with boards and beams.
