I need a new vacuum advance for my 55 first series and was surprised by the price differences from the different vendors

Jim Carter $40
Chevy's of the 40s $50
Classic Parts $30

I will gladly pay more if the quality or performance is better - can anyone answer the question "Are these all the same or is there a difference?"

Thanks,

Joe

You can almost bet your first born that the manufacturer is one and the same. There is not such a huge demand for most of these old truck parts that your going to have a large number of companies cutting each others throat trying to sell you their brand of widget. Here is an example of this. I recently needed a 12 v heater moor to replace the original 6 V. I shopped Chevys of 40, J.C. and Classic Parts, Each had a replacement motor with differing prices in the $40 to 60 range. ALL plus shipping and handling. I turned to my friend Google, did some searching and found a motor made by VDO,China,12V numbered VDO354 which sounded and looked like the parts offered by the vendors. Further study of the item from looking close up of the photo revealed the VDO 354 number at Chev of 40s.
Then going to my friend Amazon Prime and searching for 12V VDO 354 I found one selling for $30.85 free shipping, delivery guaranteed in 2 days. Guess which one I purchased? I have often said Google is your friend and I am now making Amazon Prime my next best friend.

Boy you hit the nail right on the old head with that Jerry.
How may different manufacturers are going to tool up to make
reproduction front fenders for instance when the demand is
probably only in the low thousands in a year.
A whole bunch of this stuff is coming from Counter Parts in
California, than re-labeled by the vendors. I've pulled a
lot of vendors labels off of different vendors only to reveal
the same supplier.
A for instance is the steering gear kit's. Many sold for over
$100 at various vendors and when I talked to someone at Jim
Carters, who were selling them $25 less, they told me that
they were the source, that's why they could sell them for less.
