Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 36 | I've a 1950 GMC 3/4t with the original 228. I'd like to fit a NOS or 2nd hand small tacho gauge to one side of the steering column, under the dash.
Can anyone suggest, what would be the correct period clock/gauge to fit.
And where I might fond one, bearing in mind I'm in the UK.

Your best bet is to watch ebay or hit the junk yards/swap meets and look for something that looks the part. Otherwise you could buy a newer aftermarket tach.
I may buy a cheap aftermarket and design a new face for it to match the original gauges and have a friend of mine print out a vinyl decal for me. I think anything else would look out of place. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | The tach is the big stickler. The topic of six cylinder tachs has come up before with the only very pricey 54 Corvette tach being one of the few offered. I think there was mention of some construction machinery tachs or maybe boat and airplane ones. Many were cable driven back then and if your GMC is still positive ground then an electric one may be extinct. Oldsmobiles in the 60's had what was called a "Tic-Toc-Tach" which was a combo clock and tach but it was 12v negative ground.
