My interior light bezel and my voltage regulator are put on with a funny looking screwdriver pattern....it looks like a small figure eight shape. My truck is a '51, and the parts are original. Today I started to take out some cabinets that was in a 1970's trailer house, and the same pattern is used! What is that "screwdriver" shape called?! THANKS!!!

They are called clutch head screws. There are screwdrivers and drive-bits made for them. You can usually use a properly-sized "flat"/regular head screwdriver to remove clutch-head screws.

I figured out that they are clutch head screws.....I'm going to search a local auto parts store that seems to have EVERYTHING, and if that doesn't work, I will go to a trailer shop.

Bernard,

You should not feel dumb about this. The answer might seem simple, but your question was not odd or stupid.

Hello Bernard,

NAPA sells them as well as a lot of the vintage parts stores (try Jim Carters). I found the best prices at swap meets from the people with the large tool displays. I really like the set of clutch head drive bits that I bought. They work real well with a hand impact for breaking loose rusted screws.

I recently picked up a big honking one at a swap meet. I can't read without my glasses, but when I got home and looked at it with my glasses, it reads "Snap-on Octo-Grip SDC-13". It was available between 1950 and 1955. Paid $1.67 for it. How'd I do?

Bernard- I found mine on ebay, a set of 4 sizes for around $13.00 bucks. I found em at NAPA for more than $40 bucks. Even saw them at a swap meet for $12.00. Only places I couldn't find em was Ace, Home Despot and Lowes.
