Hi everyoe
In August 2010 I went looking for a self-reward to celecbrate 3 and 5 years cancer free. I found a great '51 3100 Pickup after looking at several thousand trucks on Ebay. We made a deal and I trailered it up to Burlington, ON, Canada from South Calorina.
I wanted a truck that had most of the heavy major mechanical done but, still needed enough body and trim work be to interesting.
This one realy suits my needs. My wife was adamant and very insistant that I get a hobby to get me out of the office and distract me from my work.

My '51 3100 is a 20 footer and I would like to bring it up to a quassy trailer queen but, only for fun and only to show at local non-competition cruise nights.
It needs some interior work such as upholsteryy and other mehanical work such as changing the differential ratio to let me run at 45 mph. and a few other tweeks.
I would like to take a leisurley approach to the restoration although my basic nature wants me to finish the whole thing before summer!!!! But, that is why I got it - to teat me patience and appreciation of the process.

I would like to thank all the members who have contributed to all the forums and have given me such insight into my new obsession.
Thanks to all.
Peter

Hi Peter,welcome from Scotland.
Great to hear you're beating the 'big one' into submission.
There's quite a few folks here have gone(and are going) through a similar situation to yourself.

You'll find everything you need(and more) here at the 'bolt.
How leisurely do you mean? I'm 6 years into my '50!

In my mind I want it finished tomorrow but the bank balance says NO!
Take your time and enjoy yourself, remember Rome wasn't built in a day!
Good luck on your new adventure.
Jock.

Welcome to Stovebolt! Once you get started, believe me, you will learn patience. Waiting for parts, trying to figure out the best way to fix something, diappointments along the way, but we all learn and it just usually cost more money. Good luck, we will be here to help when we can. thumbs_up grin

Welcome to the Stovebolt,Peter. I can't believe you came to South Carolina and didn't stop in at my place for a hot dog and Pepsi smile Maybe next time. You are now at home with the 51. Most guys around here can put them together with their eyes closed!!

Jock, Rome wasn't built in a day because some Stovebolters wasn't in charge of that job.... but what can I say, 4 /12 years into the panel and its not on the road yet...but close!!!

See ya around the garage Peter. We're here to help.

Hey Peter, I'm 2 hours from you, NE of Toronto. Welcome. Good that the wife is adamant and insistent about your new hobby. Be sure to enjoy your time on it, don't let it bite you. Good luck!

Welcome, from a fellow Canuck. Congratulations on the 5 years - you've chosen a great way to celebrate.

I just acquired a 1950 1/2 ton built in Oshawa - the more I get into it, the more I realize there are a ton of things I need to figure out about her. This site is great for that.

If you get a chance, we'd love to see some pictures.

Cheers,
Fraser

Welcome to the bolt from another neighbour!

Sound like you've got a rig in good shape, can't wait to see some photos!

My 1 ton is from Oshawa as well and this summer the frame off begins! Exciting, and scary at the same time! LIke you, I like to start and get a job done fast! This will likely be a 3 - 5 year job for myself! (KIDS!)

You'll find all the best resources on the net on this site... good luck!

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome.
I am just getting my feet wet on the site and I am amazed at how helpful and friendly you 'bolters are. I guess I am a bolter now myself - this thing gets in your blood.
Thanks again and I will post some pics if ever spring comes again.
Peter

Welcome to the Stovebolt. When you get rolling you will find many cruises to go to in the summer time. Here is a great publication that most of us in the hobby subscribe to. Old Autos News They have a great get together in August in Bothwell Ontario. By the way, that is a pretty good looking truck you have there.

Hi Fraser
Great looking rig!
My biggest challenge right now is trying to sort out the engine compartment electrical that was done by the PO.
It all works but, looks like a dog's breakfast.
I could tidy it all up if I knew what is was supposed to look like. Right now there are wires going everywhere and I don't seem to be able to find a voltage regulator (??).
Your wiring looks pretty good. Is there any way you can send me a shot of engine compartment wiring? I am just looking for the harness routing and where the big bits and pieces should go ie: fuse blocks, regulator etc.
Or any directives where I might look (?).
Thanks
Peter

Howard (the truck) made his debut in time for my step daughter's wedding last summer.
Just got the final pictures back today.

Yes, congratulations to you all. I especially like the black fender matching upper painted cab combo. I don't see the cab painted that way often. Usually all one color. Really nice resto.

Howard looks great. Can't say that about the owner! LOL. Take the beard way and we could be brothers. Congrats on a great build, hope Howard runs forever.

As you can see, we got "Howard" in the Gallery finally! Great-looking truck.

Boy, I had done a major boo-boo trying to merge Peter's original post and his later one when he got Howard on the road again. I didn't think I could "un-do" it. Turned out I could but it took a lot of noodling to figure it out just right.

Congrats all around to Peter! Sounds like a great stress-release to me ... Howard looks great.
