I am finally having to deal with the terrible wiring in my truck, after nearly setting it afire. Aparrently the rew wire to the long dead ammeter shorted to the windshield wiper arm and melted a lot of stuff. I have pretty much cleaned up all the wiring replacing the extra crispy one. In the ordeal I pulled the ignition switch, now I can't figure out how it wires back up. It does NOT match the terminal lay out in the factory wiring diagram. I have 7 terminals, a "BAT", 2 "IGN", 2 "ACC", 1 "ST", and a blank. I have 1 black wire to the starter, 1 red wire to the light switch/regulator?, 1 pair of green wires to the coil and starter (on the same terminal), 1 pink wire to the turn signals, 1 brown wire (forgot where it goes) Any ways, any one can tell me what goes where?

Thanks.

blazer - here\'s the early style sw - the later one has a slightly different look , but the wires are the same - you may not have some wires, but the critical ones should be the same if you have the correct original color wires .... the different colored wires to the ign resistor are to opposite ends - the 2 green should go to the coil so it gets power either from the resistor or the starter bypass .... I think I got that right! grin

Mine didn't look like either one of those.

I'll post a pic in a few minutes maybe tomorrow, maybe.

I was just about to check the events forum.
Haven't gotten to take the old truck anywhere...

replacement item, and from the look of the plastic, a new [correct] switch may be called for grin

the way to tell what would go where is to check the function of the switch with a meter, pretty straight forward with the foot start
