For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 224 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 224 | My '47 first series (AD) 1/2 ton was repainted inside and out and the data plate was removed so I have little info on my truck. The dash is brushed on blue and the rest of the interior has been sprayed black. In reading the many posts here, I'm confused as to what was the ORIGINAL dash color as well as the color of the rest of the interior if not the same color? Haven't been able to find any clues inside the cab. Anyone steer me to an answer? or have an answer? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 93 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 93 | No answers for this guys question?

I think that Denny Graham has come up with this information: PPG formula #27467 is called Graphite Brown Metallic | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | That formula is pretty close Tim, the original had a very subtle metallic to it, where in the newer formulas the metallic presents are more noticeable. Here are a few of colors that are commonly available from the big box stores or FLAPS: http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/123580718Here is a comparison of an original 1950 (door), and PPG 27467(the inspection panel), and a DuPont formula that David sent to me recently. I'll leave that DuPont number up to him to discuss: http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/154619123The name that GM called the interior color may have changed over the years but I believe the color itself was actually the same all the way thru the run until the release of the '54 models. The best off the shelf match up that I've seen would be the Rustoleum 7272 that I believe either Gus or Brad used in their restoration and originally brought to our attention. That's available in both the rattle can and quarts for a larger area. As you can see, the Rustoleum is typically much cheaper than the paint's from the vendors. A good example is the spray can of Rustoleum from them is $15+ shipping where the same can from a big box hardware store is around five bucks+ a few cents tax. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Pulled the seat out and it appears that under the seat the panel was GRAY. The middle of the two main gauges was GRAY. (was that a clue to the ORIGINAL interior? According to the info posted online the interior was supposed to be a brown metellic. Does that mean the dash, doors were brown metellic and the rest of the cab was GRAY? Someone painted black, yellow and blue inside the cab which gives me no opportunity to find 'hidden' clues. Given the info Denny, tclederman, 5150scott offered, I am only more confuzzled. Can anyone clear the cobwebs outta my head and get me on the right path with these interior ?'s ? Then I can sleep ......

I mistakenly thought (and posted above) that you had a standard cab.
Interior colors for Panel trucks are probably different from standard cabs (and Suburban).
The mast jacket, and gear shift on Panel and Suburban was a Gray (PPG 31089; Dupont 93-70811). I do not know the interior color.

The two shades of brown metalli then were for deluxe cabs and the basic cab was gray? I'm confused because the data sheet online ONLY lists the two 'tan metalli-Chrome' shades for the interior. It doesn't refer to gray anywhere. Am I missing something? Investigating is fun but very frustrating that's for sure!! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | 47PUJim,
Sorry - you did not mislead me; I misled myself.
Standard/Regular cabs and deluxe cabs supposedly had the same color scheme (for pickup style cabs). The Deluxe Cab Equipment entry in the Truck Data Book does not mention different interior paint.
The 1947 Truck Data Book does not give interior colors.
I know, this does not help you at all.

If you have a standard 3 or 5 window Advance Design cab then the interior was originaly painted with Graphite Brown Metallic, THE WHOLE INSIDE! As far as I know it was the same all the way till the '54 models were released. The name was changed at one point in the run but the color remained the same. Once again, the PPG offset formula is #27467 and even though it's not perfect, it's about as close as I've seen so far.
The only thing that wasn't painted that color inside the cab was the Mast Jacket and steering wheel and 3speed shift linkage, which were more of a purplish gray (no formula, and must be matched or guessed at), the 4speed shift lever, the brake & clutch pedals, the starter pedal which were black. I've seen original cabs that had the fuel tank installed before the interior was painted at the factory and they were painted the same as the rest of the interior. The trim ring around the door panel was a shade of dark brown. Don't know how much more clear that can be. If your finding colors other than that then someone has repainted it at some point.

I was envisioning the inside of this truck as an 'icky' gray! If that were to be a fact, then I was gonna make sure I repainted the interior the brown metallic. Your info and pictures were priceless to say the least!!!!
