I found a true Barn Find 1954 GMC 1 Ton 250 and got it home this weekend. It was purchased in 1955 by a gentleman who owned a mandarin orchard in Citrous Heights California. He took really good care of it and there was a treasure trove under the seat and in the glovebox of all things "old truck". He kept all of the tune up parts whenever he did a tuneup. All of the old points, plugs, caps and rotor were all under there as well as a rat that was still alive! I also found an open bottle of Jim Beam tucked in the cab corner, he was a true rebel, lol.

There's no rust on this truck at all, just the surface patina that comes with age. It spent it's whole life in this barn when it wasn't working, and when it was working, it was just driving between Citrous Heights and Loomis to deliver goods. So there's 62,000 miles on it. It sat in there since 2004 and I got it running yesterday with just a new coil and plug wires, some fresh gas and a new battery.

Pretty fun stuff.

I'm currently just cleaning it up, getting the ten years of dirt, dust and crap out of it from the barn. The rat that was living under the seat peed under there as well, so I hosed out the whole interior and scrubbed it with Purple Power. I finally got the smell out and most of the dirt. I found some dark green POR-15 on Amazon, so I'm going to do the floors with that, then put down some new jute and a rubber floor mat.
Every time I turn around on this thing I find out how well this guy took care of this truck. On my '50, I drained the radiator and gobs of brown crap came out. I expected the same thing with this truck, but no, I opened the bottom petcock on the radiator and pretty green antifreeze comes running out. The engine oil looks like it was just changed. All that I have done is drain the gas tank and carb bowl and this thing starts up with barely a crank. I've never seen anything like it, it runs so well.
So I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. I've got 2 one ton's now, and I certainly don't need them both, but I love em!! Both of them have unique personalities for sure, we'll see what happens.
