The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Have I got this right?

I've been pondering the distributor wiring on my old 59 and I wanted to get a second opinion.

There's a wiring harness that comes down to the starter.

The purple wire goes to the side of the starter for the resistor bypass feature.

The heavy gauge black wire goes to the starter/battery lug.

The green wire goes to the +ve of the ignition coil.

Then there's the black points wire which I think goes to the -ve of the coil.

I consulted this manual page but there are no color codes in the diagram.

So, have I got these wires figured out correctly?

There should be no wiring in a harness near the starter that involves the negative side of the coil. This should be a simple home run from - side of coil to distributor.

coil wires, one to the ignition-on switch. one to the point set in the distributor. heavy center wire to the center of the distributor cap. have good ground for the coil case. if you have a negative ground system, then the ignition-on will be the coil + side. Else the opposite.
