Bought this truck locally through an auction. It was actually a 15 minute ride from my house. The pictures that were provided looked as if the truck was in excellent condition.

Needless to say, the block was cracked, head was warped, valves were gone, front end needed to be rebuilt. Cooling system was shot, so on and so on.

Some would say I paid too much, but in reality you pay what it's worth to you. grin

Since then, I pulled the engine, repaired the crack with loc-N-stich, rebuilt the top end, degreased the entire internal engine. I removed years of crud and mud from the water jacket. Painted interior engine with GE glyptal paint to help with oil circulation. Replaced all freeze plugs, installed new gaskets. Of course, I painted the engine. Sand blasted the frame, painted with Eastwood frame primer and paint. Painted the fire wall and cleaned up all wiring. Installed all new front suspension hardware. Had the radiator rebuilt.

Just now putting the front end back together for the Spring.

Part 1 is almost complete. Part 2 eventually will be the cab. First, I want to enjoy it and teach myself to weld so I can do the necessary repairs to make it right.

So did I pay too much, HELL NO! Worth every penny. I love it! grin

The picture is obviously an "after picture." -- Peggy M

Looks great, Jim. Hard to imagine that much trouble/neglect under the hood when it looks as good as that. Bet you can't wait til spring.

Some updated images for this thread. Have some captions to go with it.
The engine pic is a replacement engine since the original 216 decided it didn’t want to drive the rest of the way to Winchester Va. the new engine is a 62, 235cu.in. with a fresh rebuild. Raised water pump kit and a 216 valve cover. Just wanted to bring this DITY back around. Jim's Photobucket link went belly up so we found some of our shots we had on the computer to add to his thread. Hopefully, Jim can give us a little more of what's happened from his first description of the '53 to what he's got now. Remarkable! thumbs_up
