I picked up a set of 1 ton dually front hubs (just the hub part that is like a spacer) because I was told that would be what I needed to put late model rims on my 47 3800. UPS finally delivered today and I may have made an oopsie. Has anyone made this swap? Do I need spindles and drums, etc? Of course I am too late for the rest from this truck because the axle was scrapped.

I know I need to drill them out to use larger wheel studs. I just want the spacer action to offset my '99 rims.

Not sure what the question really is.
The answer is probably measure, scratch your head, measure some more and contemplate.

Hy Dan Bowles, remove the original hubs from the brake drums, check the bearings on the dual wheel hubs, and transfer the bearings from the old hubs or do whatever you have to have good bearings/seals, install the dual wheel hubs on the brake drums. Install the hub/drum assembly adjust the brakes, drive and enjoy, hope that helps.

So...did I need the dual trucks brake drums or will my single's work?

Are you planning to run dual type wheels or single wheels?
Whatever brakes you use need to fit in the wheels, so check that before deciding what combination of parts you'll use.

Spindles should be the same for both single wheel and dual wheel trucks.
You mention an adapter, like a wheel spacer. If that's what you have try just installing it and see what works.
I think 3B's advice is about swapping a complete dual wheel hub, not using your existing hubs.

That's what I want to do. The dually trucks have a 4" or so offset spacer hub. I'm trying to put that onto a singles truck so I can run late model rims. I THOUGHT it was a bolt on to the existing hub until they came UPS this week. It is actually dished so I need to get my front stripped down to see what I have.

I'll be putting larger studs in to run the late model rims.

Hy Dan Bowles, If you are not going to run dual style wheels on the front, then the adapters are not what you want. There are "late model" wheels available (singles) that will clear the tie rod ends. Years ago I built a 52 one ton pickup for a customer, he found some 16" wheels from a F@#d that cleared when installed, he had some 85 series radials mounted on them and they turned out to be taller than the stock 17" wheel and tire combo. If you install the dual wheel hubs on your front axle and then mount single wheels on them your front tire may end up at least partially outside of the front fenders, hope that helps.

I already have a set of rims and tires left from one of our 3500 trucks. I'll let you all know how wrong I end up!

As long as your exspirementing sp? try putting duals on all 4 sides and make a monster truck.
