I have a 1965 C20 with the original wood in the bed. There is a date (I assume it is a date) stamped in the wood near the cab that says "6 (I think) 31 65". Is this the date of manufacture of the truck? If not, what does it mean? I would appreciate anyone's input.

Don't know that I can help with this question otherthan to suggest the Stovebolt Bed forum and contacted Mar-k.
I am interested in the answer.

Thank you. I didn't realize there was a Bed forum. I will do that. I will let you know what I find out. Rob

We have always ASSUMED that that date is the date that the bed was assembled, not the build date of the truck.

Can you post a photo of the stamp?

Did you get a reply from "Bed Dept" ?

I'd call that a March 1 1965 bed assembly date, maybe that "C" or is the shift or?

Not too many beds still have that stamp legible! Be interesting to compare with some other casting dates on the truck and the engine assembly date if still original.

Thanks Rick. Maybe I should send the question directly to the Bed Dept. You are probably right about what the numbers and letters mean. I will see if I can find some other dates. I know the engine was rebuilt but I believe it is the original engine. Do you know where the date is located on the engine? Thanks for your help. Rob

If it's a V8 it's on a pad in front of the right cylinder head, a six, I believe it's next to the distributor. Should be a letter and a few numbers and then a couple letters.

It's a 292 6. I'll check next to the distributor. Thanks.

I believe the date-stamp on the wood, represents the processing/machining of the wood, whereas the date stamps on the motor, represents the manufacture date of the block, not the installation of the motor into the vehicle.

My bed wood "date stamp" reads: AMP3 14 66. Not sure exactly what it means, but I do know the truck was assembled at Fremont, CA on 4/1/66.
