Actually this is my first restoration / classic vehicle.

Picked up what I call a Frankentruck. 1949 one ton frame with a 1952 1/2 ton cab on it. (That swap was done by original owners back in the 50s/60's)

I got it running bit brakes are shot. Got it up on blocks and spent this week cleaning, painting, researching brakes for it. Rock Auto is the only place I've found anything listed for 3800 brake parts.

Once I get parts in and brakes working, it should be usable and drivable (no bed) as is. Then I can decide what I want to do with it!

Backwoods, thanks for posting about Rock Auto. I have agreed to purchase a one ton and that info will come in handy if I can't get stuff locally. Stovebolters ROCK.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

I have bought almost all my parts locally either through Sturdavents or NAPA but NAPA is always higher priced. I like to use NOS when I can and will look through Ebay for good deals.

This is really turning into a true Frankentruck! Checking things out it has the wheel on the shaft to have the emergency brake on the back of the transmission, but also has cable cut hanging out of the rear hubs for a cable pull emergency brake. So it's fun determining what parts came from what! smile

Who knows what all has been swapped out from different models along the years...

Get yourself a Factory Parts List, paper or disk. That will verify original parts AND what parts are common to other vehicles in your search. Try Classic Parts and Jim Carter.

Murraydave,

Is that Factory Parts List a GM document, or are you referring to a catalog of parts from various vendors?

I think he means the reproduction manuals. I plan to order several of the ones listed here:

Anyone got any advice on where to find front 1-ton wheels? (that match the rear duallies?)
