All good advice, but do not forget the valve train. I got my 39 to move after days of soaking and then addressed the stuck valves. I washed the vale train down and then used lots of oil and a bit of tapping. still a bit paranoid about things getting oiled, I way overfilled the crankcase with cheap oil and manually turned the engine over many times (by hand and/or with started) Figure the bottom end was now well lubed. Drained the excess oil, cranked and looked for oil pressure, and then tried starting. Darned thing ran and ran well. Some days you get lucky. BTW, my 39 had a 1954 license plate on it.
