In my business, the Navigator is an old term, but concept is translated to newer title and responsibilities. Terms now used are NFO - Naval Flight Officer and more specifically, WSO - Weapons system Operator. Might I suggest you gain proficiency operating weapons systems (consistent with ODSS missions), troubleshooting navigation and integrated communication, counter measures, external store interfaces, and other related systems. In my experience, Navigators are also responsible to nurture the fragile egos of their pilots, provide calming inter-cockpit communication in times of pilot-induced terror, cover up or otherwise distract others from pilot-induced errors (which rarely if ever occur), and always have a piece of hard candy, available to the pilot, to ensure physiological readiness prior to stressful situations.
