on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 217 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 217 | Just installed a heavy duty tie rod and new ends in my 55 pickup. Read the tech tips here on Stovebolts and was somewhat aprehensive. It turned out to be really easy. Unbolted the steering arms, ground off where the studs were swaged and drilled out the ball studs with a couple of carbide bits I had in my tool chest. Small bit (1/8in) first, then a 5/16 to enlarge the hole some. Clamped the steering arms in a good size vice and punched the ball studs right out. Used a punch and a small sledge. I bought the new tie rod a couple of months ago and had been sweating about the install. No problemo. And really tightened up the steering, also the truck (as it was) had about 1/2 in toe out and now is about 3/16 toe in. Tracks great and goes around curves so much better![ | | |
