Hopefully, you know what kind of vehicle the donor alternator comes from and that it is working. The easiest...not necessarily the best, is the one wire that just dumps back into the battery. Internally or externally regulated are also possibilities. Once you identify the type of regulator you can "search" and find the necessary wiring configuration. Of course you realize, you'll have to modify your mounting bracket.
Most auto parts stores can spin your alternator to verify that it is functioning properly. It would be a shame to get it all installed and find it was no good.
I used a 12v GM unit...internal regulator with a 3 wire + ground hookup on my 54....felt it was a wiser choice than the 1 wire...(Do "search").
There is a bunch of info available on this upgrade and you should be able to find specific info to fit your particular application. Hope this gets you headed in the right direction.
