Bill: The grease I took out of the linkage box was what I would call very thick. Most was black but some in the corners was a rosy/burgandy color. I would assume that the later being in the corners was original. I would say the grease is about the consistancy of butter in a cool room, just spreadable but not runny. The linkage box is cast aluminum, shaft and internals are steel.
