The basic answer is that going the scrapyard steering box route is cheaper. The repop version of the original style power steering is rather expensive, around $700-800 last time I checked. It also requires you to find/mount a pump, as well as possibly getting hoses made up for the pump side of things, depending on which kit/pump is used. It also does require a hole to be cut in the inner fender to allow for the hoses to pass through.
